If I have the opportunity, I avoid Girgaon Chowpatty on weekends and holidays because the Chowpatty beach and Khau Galli are too crowded.

Crowds are much smaller in the early morning hours, and it’s just packed in the evenings.

People come here for yoga, morning and evening walks, and lie around.

In the evening, the area looks charming:

  • Yellow lights shine from afar.
  • The skyline is tinged with pink hues.
  • People greet the day by strolling along the beach with their loved ones.

Several people flock to Girgaum Chowpatty to watch the sunset and picnic with family and friends.

Another famous festival held here is Ramlila which lasts 10 days.

Every year performance of Ramlila is performed on stage during Navaratri. Ravana standing on the sand, is burned on Vijayadashami at the end of the 10-day show.

A short walk along the beach, sitting on the sand, building castles with the kids, or just breathing while you find a corner to sit by yourself is enough to keep you busy at Chowpatty.

Save 2-3 hours early when you visit Girgaon Chowpatty and enjoy Mumbai’s spicy snacks and delicacies.

Most buses arrive at Mumbai’s central depot, just a 10-minute drive from Girgaon Chowpatty.

The beach is also famous for the street food shops where you can try various unique Mumbai chat options until midnight.

Vendors can be found on the beach selling balloons, toys, and local specialties such as spicy raw mangoes, roasted peanuts, and Mumbai fast food (or chats).

Harsh bhelpuri, panipuri, ragda meatballs, and pav bhaji can be found on the beach.

Be sure to try delicacies such as Paav Bhaji, Chaats, and Spiced Rolls. It’s a famous place for pav bhaji in Mumbai.
