Jagjit Singh death anniversary: Famous Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh is no more with us and star of India had said goodbye on this day in 2011. This great singer is still alive among us through his ghazals. Today is 12th death anniversary of Jagjit Singh the Ghazal Samrat.

Jagjit Singh’s real name was Jagjivan Singh, and he was born on February 8, 1941 in Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Jagjivan Singh had changed his name to Jagjit Singh before the start of his film career. He had his education from Jalandhar. Jagjit Singh started his career in 1961 by singing in All India Radio.

After the success of All India Radio, Jagjit Singh came to Mumbai to struggle in 1965 without informing his family. Here after many years of struggle, he got a chance to sing in Hindi cinema. It was during the struggle days of 1967 that Jagjit Singh met a man who changed his life. Yes, we are talking about Jagjit Singh’s wife Chitra. Jagjit used to visit the house in front of the area where Chitra lived in Mumbai. It was here that the two met.

Their love grew so much that Chitra divorced her husband and married Jagjit. Jagjit and Chitra used to do concerts together. Meanwhile, Chitra and Jagjit Singh had a son, Vivek. At the age of 20, Vivek was killed in a road accident. Jagjit and Chitra were deeply shocked by the death of their son and were not only shocked but they were also broken from inside, meanwhile he gave hothon se chhu lo tum, tumko dekha to ye khayal aaya, koi ye kaise bataaye, kagaj ki kashti, chithi na koi sandesh like many songs which are still evergreen.

Jagjit Singh won many honors in his life and who wouldn’t want to honor such a great singer? He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in the year 1998. In 2003, the Government of India honored Jagjit Singh with the Padma Bhushan. On this day i.e. October 10, 2011, the great Indian music legend Jagjit Singh died, but Jagjit Singh’s songs and ghazals made him immortal forever.
