Raj Shrikant Thackeray (born as Swararaj Shrikant Thackeray on 14 June 1968) is an Indian politician and the chairperson of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a regional political party. He is Bal Thackeray’s nephew and cousin to Shiv Sena president and Maharashtra’s current Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray is biggest dog lover political community.

The MNS leader is known to be a dog lover, having owned six dogs at one time, three of them were Great Danes. First dog of Raj Thackeray was Great Dane dog, ‘Bond,’ passed away on December of 2018. Bond had also died when he was 12 and a half years old.
At the Parel cemetery, he was given a proper send-off. Bond reportedly bit Raj Thackeray’s wife Sharmila Thackeray and moved away from the family to Karjat farmhouse. Sharmila required 65 stitches as a result of the dog bite. She had to have emergency surgery later on.

James beloved dog of Raj
On 29th June 2021, with heavy heart Raj Thackrey said his final goodbyes to his cherished dog James. James, a Great Dane, passed away on June 28 after a long illness brought on by his advanced age. The MNS chief, along with his family, held a solemn farewell service for ‘James,’ in which they paid an emotional homage with full honour. Thackeray paid his final honours to his beloved James in an emotional video that went viral on the internet.
The Great Dane’s funeral was held near the Maharashtra Animal and Fisheries University’s Camp Office in Nagpur. Raj Thackeray was shocked by the death of his beloved dog James. This dog can be seen with Raj Thackeray in many of his photos. The MNS chief took James with him on various tours. Raj Thackery and his dogs were frequently photographed and shared on social media.
Raj Thackrey had total of three dogs of the Great Dane Breed. Bond and Sean had already passed and with the demise of James, Thackrey was devastated. He treated all of his pets as if they were part of his family. Amit Thackeray, son of Raj Thackeray, also has two dogs: Mufasa (Golden Retriever) and Blue (Husky).
