The state government gave a subsidy to the operators of Shiv Bhojan Kendra. A subsidy of Rs 50 per plate was given to center operators in rural areas and Rs 35 per plate to thali operators in urban areas.

The Shinde-Fadnavis government suspects that the Shiv Bhojan Thali program has been misused. Then there was talk that the plan was going to be cancelled. Under this scheme, people in the state used to receive food for Rs 10. Its price was increased to Rs 5 during the Corona period. This program brought a lot of help to the poor.

What is the dispute?

There is a doubt in the mind of the Maharashtra government regarding Shiv Bhojan Thali. They believe there was a scam involved in this scheme, which needs to be investigated. Due to which it was said to review this diet as well. It is also alleged that the contracts were awarded to their preferred contractors under this scheme. With the diet overhaul, speculation has also intensified in Maharashtra that the Shiv Bhojan Thali diet, which fills the stomach of the common man, might also be closed down in the near future.

What is the government’s intention regarding the Shiv Bhojan Thali program?

According to TOI Mumbai Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified on Tuesday that the Shiv Bhojan thali or subsidized meal plan introduced by the previous MVA government would not be abolished, but complaints against the plan would be investigated.

“We have not taken any decision to close the Shiv Bhojan thali, but complaints against it will be investigated,” Fadnavis said.
