Shiv Bhojan Thali Scheme: Cost, efficiency and reach

The “Shiv Bhojan” Thali Scheme was implemented in January 26, 2020. The idea is that, regardless of caste or creed, every needy person should receive a minimum amount of basic sustenance. The three-month-long test initiative sparked interest, with large lines for this lunch thali.

Cost and other essentials of Shiv Bhojan Thali Scheme

This lunch plate under the ‘Shiv Bhojan’ thali scheme would be served daily in roughly 112 selective canteens throughout Maharashtra, primarily at government hospitals and sites where the working class is concentrated. According to the news and scheme, each thali costs between Rs.35 and Rs.50 depending on where it is served, but it will be supplied for only Rs.10, ensuring that the food and services are of high quality.

Many Mumbai residents recall the long-ago ‘Zunka Bhakar’ (Affordable Maharashtrian Dish) scheme, which was offered at various small canteens throughout the city for more than a decade but is no longer available.

People anticipate that this Shiv Bhojan Thali Scheme will be continued in the future, with no financial or food or service quality difficulties. The goal of providing 10,000 Shiv Bhojan Thalis every day is a lofty one, but it pales in comparison to the number of needy people that showed up on day one and every day thereafter.

Reach of the Shiv Bhojan Thali Scheme

According to data published by the competent department, around 90.8 lakh free plates were handed under the Shivbhojan Thali Yojna between April 15 and June 17, 2021. Under the Shiv Bhijan Yojna, the department has served over 4.7 crore plates since its inception.

In Maharashtra, a total of 441 additional facilities have been approved, with some currently operational and others set to start soon. Currently, the state has 1043 Shiv Bhojan Centres that serve food on a regular basis.

Menu of the Thali and Timings

In a single dish of ‘Shiv Bhojan,’ two chapatis (Wheat Roti), 100 g vegetable (Bhaji), 150 grams rice, 100 g Dal, plus some pickle and papad item are offered. Only between 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. will these lunch thalis (food plates) be available. However, response from the general public asks that the time be extended and that extra catering be provided.
