Lost Spring Summary
Lost Spring is a story written by Anees Jung about the lives of children in Seemapuri, a small village near Delhi. As a student, I will attempt to explain the story in straightforward English.
The plot revolves around a boy named Saheb who earns a living by collecting waste from the town’s garbage heaps. Saheb is unable to attend school because his family suffers from poverty and he must work to support them. Seemapuri’s children do not have access to education, so they spend their days searching for items in the garbage that can be sold for money.
One day, a man named Chotu arrives in Seemapuri and befriends the children. Chotu is a rag-picker from the Bangladeshi city of Dhaka. He is fascinated by his homeland’s stories, particularly the kite-flying tradition. Chotu and the children of Seemapuri find joy in seemingly insignificant things, such as flying kites made from discarded plastic bags.
The story also addresses child labor and the harsh realities of poverty. Like many others in the village, Saheb’s family is struggling to make ends meet.
