The Selfish Giant Summary in English

The story begins with the children playing in the Giant’s garden every afternoon after school. The garden was beautiful, with soft grass and fruit trees. The trees bore abundant fruit, and birds sang sweetly while perched on them. He saw the children playing and stated that he would not allow anyone to play in his garden because it was his personal property.

The children became depressed because they had nowhere else to play. They would walk around the garden’s high walls, remembering the lovely garden within. There was frost and snow in the giant’s garden during the winter. Autumn’s golden fruits did not come to his garden because of the giant’s selfishness.

The giant heard beautiful music. The children were sitting on the branches of trees, which were in full bloom. The tree’s branches were lowered, but he was still unable to climb. He decided to put that boy on top of the tree, tear down the walls, and let children play here indefinitely.

When the children saw him, they fled, and the garden returned to winter. The giant placed him on top of the tree, and the tree immediately blossomed. The other children returned, having realized that the giant is not evil. Every afternoon, the giant used to play with the children, but that little boy was nowhere to be found.

He noticed a lovely tree with white blossoms in a corner one winter morning. The tree’s branches were golden, and the little boy stood beneath it. The boy was injured, which enraged the giant. The boy smiled and invited the giant to his garden. Later, the children discovered the giant dead beneath the white blossom-covered tree.
