Danveer Karna Story in English

Shri Krishna returned from Hastinapur and narrated to the Pandavas the full details of the discussion held there. Everyone understood very well that there was no hope for peace now. War has become inevitable. Pandavas started preparations for war. He divided his huge army into seven groups under the leadership of Dhrishtadyumna, son of King Drupada.

On the other hand, Bhishma was made the leader of the Kaurava army, but he imposed a condition that he would not kill Pandu’s sons. Duryodhana was very disturbed by this statement of Bhishma Pitamah. He wanted to make Karna the leader of his army, but there was mutual discord between Karna and Bhishma Pitamah. Bhishma thought that it was Karna who instigated Duryodhana towards the Pandavas. That’s why they used to scold him. They even called him defiant, arrogant and talkative.

For this reason, Karna had distanced himself from the war till the time Bhishma Pitamah would command the army.

The Pandava army, especially Arjun, was in greatest danger of facing opposition from Karna.

In this war, as long as Karna had divine armor and earrings, it was very difficult to win him.

Devraj Indra had sensed this doubt of Arjun. They knew that one day Arjun and Karna would definitely face each other on the battlefield. Due to this, Devraj Indra approached Karna in the guise of an old sage with the intention of protecting his son Arjun.

Karna was worshiping the sun at that time. Suryadev had warned him in his dream that he had to be cautious and not to give away his armor and earrings even if anyone asked.

But after worshiping the sun, when the Brahmin disguised Devraj Indra asked him to donate his armor and earrings, Karna did not waste even a moment and took off his armor and earrings and donated them to Devraj Indra.

Impressed by Karna’s donation, Devraj Indra was very happy. He appeared to Karna and gave him a Nagastra – “Karna! Your charity will gain fame in all three worlds. For ages people will sing praises of you as Danveer Karna. I am giving you this Nagastra. Its attack never goes waste. Whoever you use it on will surely die.”

After receiving the snake weapon, Karna bowed to Lord Indra and went to his palace without having the slightest regret about donating his armor and earrings.
