How to reach Andaman By Air and Seaways

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a group of 572 islands located in the Bay of Bengal, is a popular tourist destination known for its pristine beaches, rich marine life, and exotic flora and fauna. If you’re planning a trip to Andaman, you may be wondering how to reach there. Here’s a guide on how to reach Andaman by road, flight, and rail and what’s the process.

By Flight:

The easiest and quickest way to reach Andaman is by taking a flight to Port Blair, the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Several airlines operate regular flights to Port Blair from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. The Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair is well-connected to other cities in India, making it a convenient option for travelers.

The primary airport that connects these islands to the nation and the rest of the world via plane is Port Blair Airport or Veer Savarkar International Airport. From the major Indian cities of Chennai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Cochin, and Delhi, regular flights to Port Blair are offered by Air India, Spice Jet, GoAir, and Jet Airways. Ship travel is available from Port Blair to Andaman. In addition, with DGCA approval, foreign chartered aircraft can land at Port Blair.

There is a direct flight between Kolkata and Port Blair, which takes two hours, and Delhi to Andaman Nicobar, which takes about five hours via Chennai or Kolkata. You can get to any part of Andaman by taking ferries or ships that regularly leave from Port Blair once you get there.

By Seaways:

Andaman can be reached by sea as well, but it takes longer. Every month, three to four ships depart from Kolkata and Chennai for Port Blair. Additionally, Visakhapatnam is served by one ship each month. The journey by sea takes between 50 and 60 hours, or 2 and 3 days. The ship trip from Kolkata to Andaman takes a little bit more time. You can take a ship to Andaman if you have time. Ship tickets can be purchased at these cities’ ticket centers.

Keep in mind that these government-operated vessels are not the luxurious cruise ships depicted in the images. Because ships only operate for a few days each month, tickets can be purchased 15 days prior to the ship’s departure. The government’s website requires the completion of a form. When traveling by ship, a hard copy must be readily available.
